Filipino Kundiman: Bituing Marikit - Leopoldo Silos

In the sweeping rhythm of a Danza, the song depicts a passionate lover who compares the beloved to an "unreachable star shining in the night of life," who begs "to be thrown a ray of light, or be allowed to drink from the pure stream of love." This Kundiman was composed by Prof. Nicanor Abelardo in 1926 for the Tagalog sarswela "Dakilang Punglo". The lyrics was written by Servando de los Reyes. In 1937 Sampaguita Pictures used this Kundiman in the movie "Bituing Marikit" by Carlos Tolosa, starring Elsa Oria.
